Doctor P
Any fan of electronic music should instantly recognize Doctor P as one of the original godfathers of modern bass-driven music. A true music lover at heart, Doctor P aka Shaun Brockhurst has had an intense love of music since he was just a teenager jamming with his friends on drums and guitar.
Doctor P aka Shaun Brockhurst started his musical journey when he was a teenager, jamming with his friends on the drums and guitar. Since starting Circus Records in 2009 with childhood friend Flux Pavilion, Doctor P has built himself a bass music empire as a quadruple threat with the titles of musician, producer, DJ and label founder.
Immersed in experimenting with new sounds, Shaun fell for the then emerging sub-genre of more energetic bass-driven dubstep captured by Rusko’s ‘Cockney Thug’. He was inspired to try his hand at making a few dubstep tunes in the same vein, and created the joyous and body-popping ‘Gargoyle’ shortly followed by the blindsiding ‘Badman Sound’ which were quickly picked up by Rusko and other DJs. To reflect his new sound, Shaun became Doctor P.
When he posted his new track ‘Sweet Shop’ on his MySpace to test for interest, little was Doctor P to know that this was to change the course of bass music history and inspire a whole new generation of electronic fans. ‘Sweet Shop’ quickly became a staple part of just about every DJ’s set. From junglist to house selector it became an anthem for every floor. The track was one of the first releases on Circus Records and helped make it one of the exciting labels of modern bass music.
Since the release of ‘Sweet Shop’, Doctor P continued to grow as an artist. He produced ‘Music is Dead’ with Dillion Francis, ‘Business’ with Far East Movement, 2013 smash ‘The Pit’ with Adam F featuring hip hop royalty Method Man and more recently the huge ’24/7′ with Circus Records co-founder Flux Pavilion. Doctor P has also remixed for Black Tiger Sex Machine, YOOKiE, Ganja White Night, Plan B, Example, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Blame and many more.
Another generation are now experiencing his timeless classics via fresh remixes from Zomboy, Dirt Monkey, Jessica Audiffred and rising star Hamdi. His versatility and inventive spirit continue to be present with moments like ‘Won’t Let Go’ and ‘OD’ with KOOLKID, continuing to develop the more modern sounds of bass music.
Doctor P continues his long career with a fearsome reputation as one of electronic music’s most innovative creators.
